SUBLIMATION TRENDS FOR 2019

In the world of sublimation product decoration, trends always equal more sales.

Sublimation on Darks and Cotton

Using sublimation technology to decorate cotton fabrics has long been desired by customers. In 2018, several transfer paper products hit the market that would enable those with a sublimation system to print and transfer their digital images to cotton.

In addition to these new papers that enable sublimation directly to cotton, there are also new twill and flock media options that enable customers to create transfers for use on dark – and cotton – fabrics. This media enables them to print directly onto the flock or twill with their Virtuoso printer, use a plotter to cut around the design and then heat set the transfer to the fabric. Within this process, the colors sublimate for permanent coloration.

Outdoor Applications

The effects of UV light have inhibited recommended use for sublimated signage or other products for use outdoors. ChromaLuxe, really moved sublimation applications forward in 2018 with their lines of outdoor products. All year, we saw an upswing in the number of outdoor products that sublimation businesses are offering – everything from outdoor business and event signage to garden stakes, yard signs and decorations, outdoor art installations and home placards.
These will be especially popular come spring and summer 2019, and great inspiration for a promotion or how-to video for your social media channels.

Sublimated Décor

Lots of sublimators are finding creative ways to decorate baby and throw blankets, decorative pillows, welcome mats, hand towels, key and jacket hangers, and all sorts of other items that make a house a home. Even if they have a smaller printer – SG400 or SG800 – many product decorators are using multiple transfers and presses to imprint larger items, such as blankets and doormats.
You can encourage this experimentation with marketing tactics that focus on these applications. Run a social media contest for the most creative use of sublimation for home décor. Pull together seasonal packages or design ideas focused on decorating with sublimated products. The more ideas you can bundle and communicate, the more likely your customers are to add products onto their orders – or place a new order all together.
